Split a server: lobby, second world or a Velocity network
Split your Minecraft server's RAM, vCPU and storage into up to three more servers, such as a lobby or a second world, or into a Velocity proxy that joins everything into one network. You keep paying for the one server only.
Split is under Manage in your Minecraft server's tabs. Only the person who ordered the server sees it. At the top the page shows the package's resources and how they are spread, below them the main server and its parts.
What it is for
- Minecraft server: a second server, such as a lobby, a creative world or a test server next to your survival world. It is a Paper server of its own with its own address, console, files and backups.
- Proxy (Velocity): a proxy that joins your servers into a network: players connect at one address and switch between the servers in game with
/server.
A part is not a new contract. It uses some of what your package already has; more power overall needs a larger plan.
Create a part
Press New part at the end of the list.
Give it a name if you like, such as “Lobby”.
Under The new part becomes, choose Minecraft server or Proxy (Velocity).
Set the part's RAM, vCPU and storage. Next to it you see what stays with the main server; the bars at the top show the new split before it is made.
Press Split, read the summary and confirm with Split now.
The new part is set up within a few minutes and then shows as a server of its own in your list, marked “Part of …”. The main server keeps running without a break: vCPU and storage apply at once, the smaller RAM from its next start.
A network with Velocity
A proxy part is set up completely without you touching a file: Velocity in its newest version, a velocity.toml with every server of the network, and a shared key for secure forwarding. Players land on the main server first.
Leave Connect the servers to the proxy (recommended) on and we switch the servers to Velocity's secure forwarding: online-mode off, the proxy checks the login. This applies from the servers' next start. Under Network you then see the address players connect to and which servers are listed in the proxy.
The servers listed are the ones that exist when the proxy is set up. So split off the servers first and the proxy last. A server added later you list in the proxy's velocity.toml yourself; under Network it then shows “Not listed in the proxy”.
A network has one proxy. If you need more than one, for example to spread the load, we are happy to set it up with you: open a ticket.
Change and merge parts
- Name and description: what the part is called in your lists.
- Change resources: what a part gains, the main server gives up, and the other way round. vCPU and storage apply at once, RAM from each server's next start.
- Take over shares: people who may use the main server may use the part too, with the same permissions. More under Share a server.
- Merge back: deletes the part with its files and backups and returns its resources to the main server. You confirm by holding; it cannot be undone. If the part has delete protection on, switch it off in its settings first.
If you want to keep anything from a part, create a backup before you merge and download it. It does not stay on the server.
What it costs
- Parts cost nothing extra and have no term of their own: you keep paying for the main server only.
- Parts run and end with the main server. If it is cancelled, or stopped over an unpaid invoice, its parts are too.
- You change the main server's plan once there are no parts left: merge them back first. A part has no plan of its own.
