Settings: name, deletion protection and lockdown
In the Settings tab you name the server, switch on deletion protection and lock down a game server in one step in an emergency. For a VPS you also set the login greeting and the keyboard layout here.
The Settings tab is under Setup. What it shows depends on the kind of server and your role: for a VPS or container only the owner sees it. On a game server, people with the Setup right see the restart after a crash and the reinstall; name, deletion protection, appearance and lockdown stay with the owner.
Name and description
Under Name and description the server is called what you enter everywhere in your account: up to 32 characters of letters, digits, spaces and hyphens, plus a description of up to 300 characters. Enter saves it. Left empty, the plan name shows again.
Restart after a crash
Most games have the Restart after a crash switch. When it is on, a crashed server starts again by itself. If it crashes again within a minute, it stays off so it does not restart endlessly; you will find that in the Activity.
Reinstall
Reinstall runs the game's installation again. The server is stopped for it, and depending on the game, files are overwritten. If you like, a backup is made first (Create a backup first); you confirm by holding. The steps show how far it is; afterwards the server is stopped and Start server starts it. A VPS is reinstalled in the Reinstall tab.
Deletion protection
- While it is on, the server cannot be cancelled or reinstalled in your account, and a game server cannot be emptied by a game switch or merged back as a split-off part. This also applies to people you share it with.
- Switching it on takes effect at once. To switch it off you briefly confirm that it is you (how that works).
- The statutory cancellation form and the right of withdrawal always remain available, and a contract that has ended or is unpaid still ends. If the server is already cancelled, it is deleted at the end of the contract; to keep it, take the cancellation back on the overview.
Appearance
Just for your own overview: a picture of your choice (PNG, JPEG or WebP, cropped to a square) and a Project with a colour that the server is listed under. Up to 30 projects; if you delete one, its servers stay, just without a project. For Minecraft you can also set the picture as the server icon or keep both in step; the game shows a new icon after a restart.
Lockdown
For game servers, when you think someone else has access to the server or your account. Lock down server and holding does all of this at once, with no further question:
Sharing and team access to this server are paused. Their rights are kept.
API tokens that reach this server are revoked; a token that also reaches other servers is revoked as a whole.
Your SFTP password is removed. It is one login for all your servers; SSH keys stay.
Open consoles and SFTP sessions are disconnected, your own as well.
The server is stopped; if it has not stopped after 45 seconds, it is killed.
While the lockdown is on, a note sits at the top of every page of the server, and only you can reach it. Lift lockdown gives shares and team their access back; for that you briefly confirm that it is you. The server is not started by itself, and revoked tokens and the SFTP password do not come back: you set a new password under Access.
VPS and containers only
- GoodFlare greeting at login: when you log in by SSH (on a VM also in the console), the server shows a few lines with name, addresses, resources, load, pending updates and the way to support. The line under the switch says what the server reported. If you change the file in the server, your version stays; you can also switch it off there with
chmod -x /etc/update-motd.d/10-goodflare. - Console keyboard layout (VMs only): the graphical console sends keys by where they sit on the keyboard. Set your layout here and umlauts and special characters arrive as typed. It is set through the guest agent in the server as soon as it runs, and stays after a reinstall. SSH is not affected.
