Rust: plan wipes and plugins with Oxide or Carbon
Your Rust server wipes on a plan, announced in chat and with a backup first, or right away by hand. Plugins run on Oxide (uMod) or Carbon; switching between them takes a few steps.
You plan wipes in your Rust server's Wipe tab, and plugins and the framework in its Plugins tab.
The force wipe
Facepunch releases the monthly update on the first Thursday of the month at 20:00 German time. Afterwards the old map no longer loads, and every server needs a new one. That holds without a plan too: the server fetches the update itself at its next start.
Set up a plan
Turn on Wipe automatically and choose the Rhythm: Monthly (the force wipe only), Weekly or Every 2 weeks, plus weekday and time. The force wipe has its own time setting.
Decide when Blueprints go: On force wipe, On every wipe or Never. Under Also delete you add Player data and Plugin data.
Choose the map: New seed, Keep seed, Fixed seed or Custom map through an https link to a
.mapfile. The Map size ranges from 1000 to 6000 m.Announce in chat: 60, 30, 15, 10, 5 or 1 minute before, only while the server runs. Backup first saves the old world.
Press Save plan. Next wipes shows what happens when; with a new seed, a link leads to the preview on RustMaps.
A wipe runs in this order: announce in chat, backup, stop the server, delete what this wipe takes, set the next map, start. Times are German time, also across the clock change.
- The backup takes one of your backup slots. If all are taken, a planned wipe runs without a backup and notes that.
- A wipe that would run more than two hours late (after a disruption, say) is skipped rather than run in the middle of the evening.
Wipe now
Wipe now takes the settings above, even unsaved ones, and shows what will be deleted. With Wipe blueprints too the blueprints go as well. You confirm by holding; the server is gone for a few minutes. At most three wipes by hand in 30 minutes. Every wipe, planned or by hand, is listed under Past wipes.
Plugins and framework
Without a framework Rust loads no plugins, but it is listed officially without the modded flag. In the Plugins tab you choose:
- None
- No plugins
- Oxide (uMod)
- The classic, the most plugins
- Carbon
- Faster, also loads Oxide plugins, changes no game files
A switch runs in steps: stop the server, keep the old framework folder as an archive, move plugins, settings and data across, switch and start. When leaving Oxide, the server then checks its game files, because Oxide changed them; that takes a few minutes. If a step fails, nothing is deleted. The archived folders are under Files.
You search and install plugins from uMod right in the tab; they go as a .cs file into oxide/plugins or carbon/plugins. Plugins written only for Carbon do not load under Oxide. Switch to None and the plugins stay in their folder and load again when you switch back.
