Change game: another game on the same server
Run another game on your game server without a new order. Whatever fits the current resources you switch to at the same price; you can keep the previous game as an instance and bring it back later.
The switch is in your game server's Change game tab. Only the person who ordered the server sees this tab. What a game server costs follows its resources (RAM, vCPU, storage), not the game.
Which games are possible
- Included in your plan: games that fit the current resources. Resources and price stay the same.
- With a larger plan: games that need more. The page names the cheapest plan that fits and what is due today, pro rata until the end of the term. First you pay and the plan is raised, then the game is switched; if the payment fails, everything stays as it is.
What becomes of the previous game
- Keep as an instance
- Recommended. Files and startup parameters are saved as an instance; later you switch back with world and settings. Uses a backup slot, not the server's storage.
- Backup instead of an instance
- Only the files go into a backup under Backups. Going back then means installing fresh and restoring the backup.
- Delete, without a backup
- The files are deleted and cannot be recovered. You also confirm with a word.
- Leave them
- The files stay next to the new game.
Under Backup slots you see how many are in use. With Show instances you see your saved instances and can delete one to free a slot without leaving the switch.
How to switch
Choose the new game.
Choose what becomes of the previous game.
If there is already a saved instance of the new game, choose: install fresh or load the saved state.
Read the line above it about what will happen, and confirm by holding. If something is due, you pay as part of it.
The steps show how far the switch is: stop the server, save or remove the previous game, install the new one or restore the saved state, start the server. The installation can take a few minutes.
Switching back
If you kept the previous game as an instance, switch back to it here and choose Load the saved state …. Files and startup parameters come back; the server's ports and address stay as they are. Instances within the same game are managed under Instances.
Good to know
- While Deletion protection is on, a switch that deletes the files is not possible. You switch it off under Settings.
- While a plan change is running or scheduled, no switch is possible.
- The server's databases stay as they are.
- After the switch, the server shows the new game's tabs.
