Vaultwarden as a ready app
Your own password vault for the Bitwarden apps, run and updated by us: create your account, connect the apps, set sign-up and the admin token.
First steps
Open the address
The Overview shows your vault's address, such as
vault-…goodflare.me, with a valid certificate. Open takes you there.Create your account
Sign up with your customer account's email address: it is already invited. Only you know your master password; we cannot reset it.
Keep the admin token
Under First login you show the admin token for the admin page (
/admin) exactly once. Store it in your vault right away.
Connect the Bitwarden apps
Vaultwarden works with the official Bitwarden apps for phone and desktop and with the browser extensions. When signing in, choose Self-hosted (in some versions through the region field) and enter the address from the overview as the server URL, with https://. Then sign in with your email address and master password.
More accounts
Sign-up starts switched off: only invited addresses can create an account. You send invitations on the admin page. Without email sending set up no mail arrives; the invited person then signs up directly at the address. Under App settings, switch on Open sign-up if anyone with the address should be able to create an account.
Sign-up and the admin token apply as set under App settings. If you change the same fields on the admin page, we reset them at the next start; every other setting of the admin page stays.
Updates and backups
We keep Vaultwarden up to date. Before every update we make a safety copy and check afterwards that the app answers; otherwise we restore the copy. The overview shows which version runs and since when. A backup is made every night; under Backups you make more, download them or restore them. Also export your vault in the Bitwarden app.
Good to know
- You are responsible for the content you and your accounts store in the vault; our terms apply here too.
- This app has no files, console or startup parameters: we run it, you use it.
- Vaultwarden is open source (AGPL-3.0) and an independent project, not made by Bitwarden Inc.: please report problems with Vaultwarden there, not to Bitwarden.
