Forgejo as a ready app
Your own Git hosting for repositories, run and updated by us: sign in as administrator, clone and push over HTTPS, bring in your team.
First steps
Sign in
Open the address from the Overview, such as
git-….goodflare.me, and sign in asadministratorwith the password from First login, which can be shown exactly once. Forgejo keeps the nameadminfor itself.Create a repository
In Forgejo, “New repository” creates one, for yourself or for an organisation.
Clone and push
Git talks to Forgejo over HTTPS; Forgejo shows the repository's address on its page:
git clone https://git-….goodflare.me/administrator/my-project.gitSigning in with Git
When Git asks for a user and password, use your Forgejo user name and, instead of the password, preferably an access token: in Forgejo under Settings › Applications, with the right on repositories. A token can be revoked on its own, and with two-factor sign-in in Forgejo only the token works over Git.
Bring in your team
Sign-up starts switched off. As administrator, you add more accounts in Forgejo under Site administration › User accounts and pass the password on yourself. If anyone with the address should be able to create an account, switch on Open sign-up under App settings; the app restarts briefly for it.
Password
You set a new password for administrator under App settings with Set a new password; you see the new one exactly once. An administrator sets other accounts' passwords in Forgejo, since Forgejo sends no mail with us and “Forgot password” does not arrive.
Updates and backups
We keep Forgejo up to date. Before every update we make a safety copy and check afterwards that the app answers; otherwise we restore the copy. A backup with repositories, issues and settings is made every night; under Backups you make more, download them or restore them. A repository that also lives somewhere else is still the best safeguard.
Good to know
- Git runs over HTTPS only; there is no SSH.
- Forgejo Actions (CI) is off: it would need runners of its own.
- Forgejo sends no mail, no notifications either; you see what is new in Forgejo itself.
- Repositories, attachments and everything else share your app's 10 GB of storage.
- You are responsible for the content of your repositories; our terms apply here too.
- Forgejo is open source (GPL-3.0-or-later).
