Staging: try changes first
A copy of your website at its own address, for updates and new plugins. When everything fits, push staging to the real website with one click.
Staging is in your website's Staging tab. It belongs to the larger plans; if yours does not include it, add it by changing plans. Staging is as large as the website and costs nothing extra.
Create staging
Switch Staging on. Creating it takes one to two minutes. The copy has its own address (staging-…), and search engines are kept out there.
Protect it with a password
Under Password protection you generate a password or set your own (at least 8 characters). Anyone opening the staging address has to enter it; the browser then stays signed in for 7 days. There is no such protection for the real website.
Copying both ways
Under Copy choose the direction: staging to the real website (live), or live back to staging.
Choose what is transferred: files and database, files only or database only.
On the way to live: Keep uploaded media on live, so new images are not lost, and Back up live first (it saves the files, not the database).
Check the preview of the changed files and tables and confirm by holding.
When the database goes to live, it replaces live's: orders, comments or sign-ups made on live since staging was created are lost. Live is briefly offline during the transfer, usually under a minute.
Removing it
If you no longer need staging, remove it by holding. Live is not affected.
