Free names under goodflare.me

Every game server, VPS and container can have names under goodflare.me, such as survival.goodflare.me or myvps.goodflare.me. You set them up in the server's Network tab under Address with a name. The names are free, always point at the server's current address, and go when the server ends.

Creating a name

   Open the Network tab and choose Under goodflare.me in Address with a name.

   Type the name: 3 to 32 characters, lower-case letters, digits and hyphens, not at the start or end. Whether it is free shows at once.

   Press Create. The name is usually known worldwide within a few minutes.

• Game servers: up to 3 names per server. VPS and containers: as many as the plan includes (one on the small plans, two on the larger ones); the Network tab shows the number. At most three new names per week and server. Apps from the catalogue get their address automatically on top; it does not count.
• Names that look like signing in, payments, banks, well-known brands or GoodFlare, and insulting words are blocked, also with digits for letters.
• A name belongs to exactly one server; game servers and VPS share all names.
• Some names are reserved, such as www, mail, api, my, admin, status and ns1. Names that look like GoodFlare are not possible.
• The records only point at public addresses. If a server has none at the moment, the name points nowhere until it has one again.

What players type

Only Minecraft Java reads the port from DNS (SRV record). Every other game gets an A record, and the port goes with the name unless it is the game's default. Under each name the portal shows exactly the line players type.

VPS and containers

A name for a VPS or container is an A record to its public IPv4, without a proxy: SSH, mail, web servers and everything else reach the server directly. If the address changes, the name follows. The name gets an AAAA record for IPv6 once VPS have an IPv6 address of their own.

Your own domain instead of goodflare.me

Under Own domain, the Network tab shows the records to set at your DNS provider (A to the IPv4, AAAA to the IPv6 if there is one). If the domain is under Domains and the portal can write its records, Add to … opens the Connect a VPS template with this server; you see what changes and confirm. For game servers it works in the same place: Add and connect a domain.

Abuse

Names under goodflare.me belong to our customers' servers, not to GoodFlare. If you find something illegal under such a name, report it with the report abuse form. We can block a name: its records are removed, and nobody can create it again until we release it. Only the name is blocked, the server keeps running.
