Payment methods
Save a payment method, set it as default or backup, and remove it. Payments run through Stripe; card details never reach our servers.
Payments run through Stripe, by credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, SEPA Direct Debit, PayPal or Klarna. The same list is shown in the cart and at checkout under the total.
For automatic renewals the payment method is saved; that works with a card (also through Apple Pay or Google Pay), SEPA Direct Debit and PayPal. With Pay in advance nothing is saved, and you pay each invoice with whichever method you choose then.
Klarna
Klarna pays a single payment: an order, an invoice or a plan change. Klarna is never saved for renewals, not even with Renew automatically. If you have no other payment method saved, you get an invoice with a link to pay before the renewal, as with Pay in advance. To have it happen by itself, save a card, SEPA Direct Debit or PayPal under Account, Payment method.
Save a payment method
Open Account, Payment method and press Add a payment method (or the add button when one is already there).
Choose what it is for: Default (for renewals), Backup or Just save.
Enter the details in Stripe's form and confirm.
A payment method you use when paying with Renew automatically is saved as well, except Klarna.
Default and backup
Renewals are paid from your balance first, then from the default payment method. If the bank declines the default, the backup is charged once. If your bank asks for a confirmation (3-D Secure), this cannot happen automatically; you then get an email with a link to pay.
Each payment method's “…” menu has: set as default, set as backup, no backup any more, and Remove.
When a payment fails
You get an email with a link to pay. We try twice more, a day apart. If it is still unpaid after 3 days, the server is stopped; the data is kept.
Good to know
- Your only payment method cannot be removed while a server renews automatically. Add another first, or set the server to Prepaid.
- If a card expires soon, a note appears on the payment method.
- Without a saved payment method every renewal comes as an invoice to pay.
