Change the runtime and version of a bot server
A newer version of the same runtime is one click under App. For another runtime, from Node.js to Python for example, there is Change runtime: at the same price, with a choice of what becomes of your files.
Change the version
Under App, at Runtime, are the versions your runtime comes in, newest first: Node.js 24 and 22, Python 3.13, 3.12 and 3.11, Java 25, 21 and 17. Bun and Go come in one version. A click on a version saves it; it counts from the next start. Your files stay as they are; the dependencies are installed again for the new version at the start.
Another runtime
The switch is in the Change runtime tab. Only the person who ordered the server sees this tab. Every runtime is included in the plan; resources and price stay the same. First you choose what becomes of your current files:
- Keep as an instance
- Files and settings are saved as an instance. You switch back later under Instances. Uses a backup slot.
- Backup instead of an instance
- Only the files go into a backup under Backups.
- Delete, without a backup
- The files are deleted and cannot be recovered.
- Leave them
- The files stay and the repository stays set. Right when the same code runs on the new runtime, from Node.js to Bun for example.
With every other choice the new runtime starts empty and you fetch the code again. The start command is detected automatically again after the switch. Your environment variables and the Git access token stay in any case. You confirm by holding; the steps show how far the switch is.
Good to know
- With Deletion protection on, a switch that deletes the files is not possible.
- Databases, ports and the server's address stay as they are.
- A bot server switches between runtimes only, not to a game.
