AI connection: Claude, ChatGPT and other AI programs
Connect your own AI program to your GoodFlare account over MCP. It reads the state of your servers, the console and files, and controls the servers if you allow it, with a confirmation before every change.
GoodFlare offers an MCP server (Model Context Protocol, the open standard through which AI programs use tools). The AI itself runs at your provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI, with your account there; we run no AI and charge nothing for it. What your AI program is told about your servers goes to that provider.
What it can do
- Read
- List servers, state and usage, the latest console lines, folders and text files up to 256 KB, backups, invoices, the health check and the start parameters
- Change
- Start, stop, restart, send a console command, create a backup, write a text file, set a start parameter or the restart after a crash
Everything only as far as your rights on the server go: on a shared server the share's rights apply, in a team the team's rules including the two-factor requirement. Cancelling, reinstalling, deleting and paying are not possible through the AI connection.
Connect Claude
In Claude (in the browser or the desktop app) open Customize · Connectors, choose Add and then Add custom connector.
Enter “GoodFlare” as the name and as the address the one shown under Account · AI connection,
https://my.goodflare.io/api/mcp.Keep the OAuth sign-in and press Add, then Connect. GoodFlare's sign-in page opens.
Sign in, check the program and the return address, and choose what the program may do. Read is always included, Allow changes stays off until you switch it on. Press Allow.
In a chat, switch the connector on through + and Connectors. Ask, for example: “How is my Minecraft server doing?”
The menu names belong to the AI programs and may change. In Claude Team and Enterprise accounts, the owner adds the connector in the organization settings.
Connect ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, under Settings · Apps (depending on the plan Apps & Connectors), switch on Developer mode under Advanced.
Create a new connector (Create or Add custom connector), name “GoodFlare”, address
https://my.goodflare.io/api/mcp, sign-in with OAuth.Sign in on GoodFlare's page and choose what the program may do.
Whether ChatGPT also uses the changing tools depends on your OpenAI plan; reading works in any case.
A confirmation before every change
If you allowed changes, GoodFlare asks in your AI program before every single change (“Claude wants to: restart Survival. Go ahead?”). Nothing happens until you confirm. This applies to every program that can show such questions (MCP elicitation).
If your program cannot show a confirmation, GoodFlare refuses changes. If you want them anyway, switch on Without confirmation too for the connection under Account · AI connection.
Console lines and files contain other people's text, such as player chat. GoodFlare passes it on as marked data and tells the AI that it holds no instructions. An AI can still be fooled. So keep the confirmation on and read what you confirm.
See and disconnect connections
- Under Account · AI connection you see every connected program, where it signs in, what it may do, on which servers, when it last called and its latest calls.
- Allowing or forbidding changes takes effect at its next call. To widen it, you briefly confirm that it is you.
- Disconnect (held) ends the access at once.
- Every change is listed in the server's activity with “via AI connection” and the program's name.
- You get a security email when a program is connected.
Without sign-in: with an API token
Programs that cannot sign in with OAuth take an API token as a bearer token in the Authorization header. Reading needs the permission Read (files: View files, the console: Control servers), changes the matching one: Control servers for power and commands, Backups, Edit files. Start parameters, which often hold admin and RCON passwords, cannot be reached with an API token, only through an AI connection. A confirmation comes here too if the program can show it.
Limits
- 60 calls a minute per connection, 120 for the whole account; power, commands and backups also have the API's limits.
- A sign-in stays valid for 60 days while the program uses it; after that, sign it in again.
- Reading and writing files up to 256 KB, text only.
